Michel Juillot - Mercurey Chardonnay
The Juillot family is closely linked to the reputation and quality of the Mercurey appellation. Established in 1928 by Michel Juillot, the estate spreads over 31 hectare across the Côte Châlonnaise and Côte de Beaune. Laurent, fourth generation, and his son, Pierre, craft a varied range of wines, from village Bourgogne up to the Grand Crus of Corton Perrières and Corton-Charlemagne.
The Domaine is run along the principles of lutte raisonnée, focusing on an organic approach (no certification) . Harvest is done exclusively by hand with grape sortings in thevineyards and at the cuverie. The minimum intervention techniques in winemaking use gravity and indigenous yeasts.
100% chardonnay - Village level. Blend of two plots La Plante Chassey and Champ Roin. The terroirs are composed of clay-limestone soils, beige marl and hard pebbles on the surface. Hand harvested. Barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts. Aged on lees for 12 months (10% new barrels).
Expressive nose of baked apples, pears, white flowers and light baking spices. All in balance with subtle creamy notes and a crisp clean togetherness. Fat, fullness and richness, all in a slender and saline style. From beginning to end this wine is seamless in the way the smoky minerality, fruit, acid and texture come together.
