Château de Meursault - Beaune Beaufougets Chardonnay
Dating back to the 11th Century, The Château de Meursault estate comprises 60 hectares of vines, all situated in the Côte de Beaune. The estate changed hands In 2012, bringing a brand new vision and approach under the supervision of Managing Director Stéphane Follin-Arbelet. The domaine is now certified organic. The winemaking is respectful to terroir, new oak ranges from 25-40% and the wines are aged for 15-18 months in the magnificent and impressive Cistercian vaulted cellars, which date back to the 12th, 14th and 16th centuries, beneath the Château. All the wines are estate grown as the Château de Meursault does not source any juice/wines from the negoce trade. The Château de Meursault also hosts the Paulée de Meursault on the Monday after the Hospices de Beaune sale every year, with the cuvérie being cleared of vats and vintage paraphernalia in order to lay tables for lunch for 600 people.
Organic. Beaufougets is located under the 1er Cru Clos des Mouches, a stone throw from Pommard. This is a village appellation level. 100% Chardonnay. Traditional Burgundy vinification. Aged on lees 12 months in French oak barrels (30% new).
The delicate nose offers hints of vanilla and toasted almond. The palate is ample, revealing almond aromas once again. This wine has nice length and an almost saline finish. This could be aged for a few years
