Au Pied du Mont Chauve - Chassagne 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean Chardonnay
Headquartered at the Château de Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaines & Maison Famille Picard represents 135 hectares of vines in property, including 35 in the Côte de Beaune with Au Pied du Mont Chauve, and 100 in the Côte Châlonnaise with four different estates: Château de Davanay, Domaine Voarick, Domaine Champs-Perdrix, Domaine Levert Barrault. All the estates are certified organic / biodynamic and are under the supervision of CEO Francine Picard, daughter of founder Michel Picard. Sorting, pressing, fermentation, racking and bottling is all carried out according to the lunar calendar. Only natural yeasts are used during fermentation and particular attention is paid to the selection of oak casks as well as to the bottling date, in order to emphasize the different characteristics of each site.
Biodynamic. Located in the center of the village, the Clos Saint Jean is one of the oldest appellations in Chassagne. The vines were mainly planted in the 1940s on gentle slopes, facing south-east with very red soil (iron oxide), light, shallow and not very stony. 100% old vine chardonnay. Traditional Burgundy vinification. Aged on lees 12 months in French oak barrels + an extra 8 months in tanks.
