Founded in 1923 as a small co-operative winery with 23 growers on their books, Girlan is based in the heart of Italy’s beautiful, mountainous, Alto Adige region also known as Südtirol / South Tyrol. Today, about 200 greatly committed and motivated winegrowing families farm 220 hectares of vineyards in the subregions of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. Girlan is known for producing clean, aromatic, textural, snappy whites as well as some of the best Italian Pinots Noirs (Trattman, Vigna Gagner).
Organic. The Cru Girlan is located near Bolzano, amidst the gently rolling slopes of Monte di Mezzo, at an altitude of 450 to 550 meters. The various east - west exposures have, in some places, 12% inclinaison grade. Towards the north, the Alps protect the vines from the cold wind. The soils are gravelly and argillaceous and low in nutrients. Heavy temperature fluctuations between day and night – especially in the autumn – bring a fine, distinct bouquet, and enhance the complexity of the cuvées. 100% Sauvignon. Hand harvested. Vinified and aged 6 months on its lees in tanks. No malolactic fermentation.
The Sauvignon grape varietal grows in Alto Adige since more than a century. Elegantly framed with fine consistency, and intense notes of crushed tomato vine, bell pepper and tropical fruit. Crisp acidity keeps it lively and refreshing with hints of tangerine zest, white pepper, and mineral-laced sweet citrus tones and a savory, almost-salty quality that lasts throughout the finale. This wine pair wonderfully with white-fleshed fish dishes, asparagus and other spring vegetables.

The nose displays a savory bouquet of crushed rocks, sage and mint giving way to yellow apple and lime zest. This is silky and pliant with an energizing core of bright acidity and tart orchard fruits that add tension toward the close. Hints of young peach and kiwi linger as this tapers off with a salty mineral twang. An easy-drinking wine, best suited as an aperitivo, but also friendly enough for seafood appetizers, grilled fish, or white meat.

Organic. 100% Pinot Noir from three crus: Girlan, Mazon, Pinzon. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 380 and 530 meters a.s.l. and are characterized by morainic deposits on volcanic porphyry rock as well as by west-facing, loamy limestone soils. Hand harvested. After destemming, the must is filled by gravity into the steel tanks where the alcoholic fermentation takes place (18-20 days). After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in large wooden barrels (50 hl). Finally, the wine is stored for further 6 months in the bottle.
The Pinot Noir Patricia is upfront and fresh, showing pretty rose tones, wild strawberry, white pepper, smoke and sage. It’s soft, even fleshy, with juicy textures that usher in a pure mix of bright cherry and cranberry complemented by subtly sweet spice. This is quite attractive.

Dusty and floral, the Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann opens slowly with a blend of wild strawberries, sweet roses and crushed stone. This is a model of purity, with mineral-tinged red berries and inner lavender tones propelled by vibrant acidity. It finishes dramatically long and lightly structured, leaving red plum and sweet inner florals lingering over a coating of gentle tannins. Already so pretty today, the Trattmann will excel through short-term cellaring

Heavy temperature fluctuations between day and night – especially in the autumn – bring a fine, distinct bouquet, and enhance the complexity of the cuvées. 100% chardonnay coming from various vineyards. Hand harvested. Vinified 50% in tanks and 50% in large oak barrel. Aged 6 months on its lees before blending. Partial malolactic fermentation.
The elegant nose is subtly sweet and floral with honied yellow flowers, notes of peach and melon. Silky textures soothe all that they touch with ripe orchard fruits and hints of spice. A note of butterscotch and vanilla bean lingers, balanced by residual acids and green citrus that keeps the mouth watering for more.
